The 2025–26 season is the 148th season in the history of Ipswich Town Football Club, and their first season back in the Championship since the 2023–24 campaign, following relegation from the Premier League in the preceding season. In addition to the domestic league, the club also compete in the FA Cup and the EFL Cup.

On 30 June 2025, it was announced that Town would be changing the front-of-shirt sponsor for the first time since 2021 from Ed Sheeran's +–=÷× Tour to HaloITSM.[1]

Season summary

August

After having spent one season in the Premier League, the first game of Ipswich's return to the Championship saw them travel to St Andrew's to take on newly promoted Birmingham City. Town handed a full debut to Azor Matusiwa and the two promotion favourites ended the game with a 1–1 draw when George Hirst scored a penalty in the last minutes of the game causing a fight between the two squads.[2][3] A couple of days later, Town travelled to League Two side Bromley for the first round of the EFL Cup. Both Ashley Young and Cédric Kipré were handed their full debuts along with academy player Finley Barbrook. The game once again ended 1–1 with the game going into penalties which saw Town lose 5–4 being knocked out of the competition.[4] The following Sunday, Town were back at Portman Road as they hosted fellow relegated side Southampton. Town started the game very strongly and scored early via an own-goal but the game ended 1–1 for the third match in a row.[5] The next week, Town fell to their first defeat of the season when they travelled to Deepdale to take on Preston North End and conceded an early penalty which led to being the only goal of the game and the score ended 1–0 to Preston.[6] August ended when Ipswich hosted Derby County with a returning Jens Cajuste on his second loan as well as Kasey McAteer being handed his full debut. August did not end well for Town as thanks to an injury time penalty from Jack Clarke the game ended 2–2 and leaving Ipswich in 20th position on 3 points.[7]

September

After the international break, September started by seeing Town host struggling Sheffield United which also saw the debuting Darnell Furlong. Town dominated the game and thanks to a hat-trick from Jaden Philogene as well as goals from George Hirst and Jack Clarke, Ipswich won the game 5–0 and recorded the first win of the season.[8] The following week Town travelled to Ewood Park to take on Blackburn Rovers. At the 80th minute mark, Town were down to 10 men after Jacob Greaves received a straight red card and were also 1–0 down but due to the heavy rainfall, the pitch became waterlogged and the game had to be called off to be re-scheduled for a later date.[9] The next week Town were back at Portman Road to host Portsmouth with the game ending in a 2–1 victory.[10] Three days later Town ended the month by visting Ashton Gate to take on high flying Bristol City. Unfortunately, Town could still not get their first away win of the season and the game ended in a 1–1 draw.[11] This saw Ipswich end the month in 13th position with 10 points and also undefeated which saw Kieran McKenna win the manager of the month award for September.[12]
