Tristes Tropiques (Korean: 슬픈 열대; RR: Seulpeun yeoldae; lit. 'Sad Tropical') is an upcoming 2026 South Korean neo-noir action thriller film directed by Park Hoon-jung, starring Lee Shin-young, Park Yu-rim, Kim Myung-min, and Park Hae-soo.[1][2]
Synopsis
It tells the story of children belonging to a killer organization called "Sad Tropics," raised by the "Master," the ultimate ruler of the rainforest. Amidst a shocking incident, they begin to suspect one another and vow bloody revenge.

Production
Development
On July 17, 2024, Mindmark unveiled its film lineup for 2024 and 2025, featuring director Park Hoon-jung's latest work, "Sad Tropics." This film narrates the tale of children raised by the rainforest's ultimate master, who become part of a gang of young killers. As distrust brews among them, they seek bloody revenge. "Sad Tropics" is said to offer a new level of complexity and depth, surpassing Park's earlier films. Auditions were underway, with plans to begin filming in Thailand in September.[10]
Marketing
International sales rights was secured by Finecut. They will introduce the project to buyers in Toronto.[11]
Casting
Director Park Hoon-jung's new film has completed its main cast and begun filming.[12]
Filming
The production will be located in Thailand and run from September to December.[13]
Release
Set to release in South Korea 2026. It has been officially invited to the competition section of 58th Sitges Film Festival.[14][15]
