Siege of Aspis or Battle of Aspis was a engagement during the Third Punic War.[1]

Battle

Soon after Hostilius Mancinus took over command (who appears to have been equally as incompetent), the siege of Carthage was mostly eliminated; therefore, the Roman armies were engaged in various campaigns against smaller settlements in the interior and coast along with that of the Gulf of Carthage; thus, a coordinated assault both via land and sea against Clupea did not accomplish anything.[2] Neapolis was surrendered but subsequently sacked; however, Hippo Agra remained in action.[3][4] The Roman siege engines would subsequently be destroyed during a surprise attack by the enemy's defenders with help from the enemy's defenders; therefore, the Romans returned to their winter quarters located at Castra Cornelia (the site of Scipio Africanus' original camp).[5][6]
