Princess Hermine of Waldeck and Pyrmont (German: Hermine zu Waldeck und Pyrmont; 29 September 1827 – 16 February 1910) was a member of the House of Waldeck and Pyrmont. By her marriage to Adolf I, Prince of Schaumburg-Lippe, she became the Princess of Schaumburg-Lippe from 1860 to 1893.
Biography
Princess Hermine was born in Arolsen, the second daughter of George II, Prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont and Princess Emma of Anhalt-Bernburg-Schaumburg-Hoym. She was a younger sister of George Victor, Prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont and an aunt of Queen Emma of the Netherlands.[1]
Marriage and issue
On 25 October 1844, at Arolsen, Hermine married her first cousin, Adolf I, Prince of Schaumburg-Lippe.[2] They had eight children:
- George, Prince of Schaumburg-Lippe (1846–1911); succeeded his father as Prince of Schaumburg-Lippe; married Princess Marie Anne of Saxe-Altenburg and had issue.
- Prince Hermann of Schaumburg-Lippe (1848–1928).
- Princess Emma of Schaumburg-Lippe (1850–1855).
- Princess Ida of Schaumburg-Lippe (1852–1891); married Heinrich XXII, Prince Reuss of Greiz and had issue, including Empress Hermine, second wife of Wilhelm II, German Emperor.
- Prince Otto of Schaumburg-Lippe (1854–1935); married Anna von Koppen.
- Prince Adolf of Schaumburg-Lippe (1859–1916); married Princess Viktoria of Prussia, daughter of Frederick III, German Emperor.
- Princess Emma of Schaumburg-Lippe (1865–1868).
- Princess Alexandra of Schaumburg-Lippe (1879–1949).
During her tenure as Princess consort, Hermine was known for her philanthropic efforts in Bückeburg, supporting local hospitals and educational institutions.[3]
