Port of Nordfjordeid

The Port of Nordfjordeid (NONFD) is a cruise port located in the south end of the village of Nordfjordeid in Stad Municipality.[1]

In 2025, the port received 80 calls with 228,747 passengers, making it the tenth most visited passenger terminal in Norway.[2]

Located in the Nordfjord the port offers wide amount of shore excursions to major attractions such as Sagastad Viking Center and Loen Skylift. Forbes has highlighted the destination as a must-see ahead of the more established ports in Norway.[3]

History

The cruise port began operations in 2019 and is operated by the company Seawalk Nordfjord AS as a result of a deal with Stad Municipality from 2016, providing the company with exclusive rights to operate a cruise port in the village for a period of 50 years.[4] Making the port one of the few privately operated cruise ports in Norway.[5]

The local government wanted to improve terms for local businesses and recommended enabling cruise tourism as a key priority. The Municipality did not want to take on the risk or investments related to infrastructure and thus licensed the rights to the Seawalk company.[4]

The first call came from AIDA CruisesAIDAperla on May 21, 2019.[6] In total the port received 19 calls in 2019.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was no calls in 2020 or 2021.[7] After the pandemic the port experienced rapid growth with 53 calls in 2022, 67 in 2023, 61 in 2024 and 80 in 2025.

Infrastructure

The port uses a SeaWalk system. A floating pier system similar to installations at North Cape-Lakselv, Geiranger, Skjolden and Stockholm.[8]

The SeaWalk is 220 metres (720 ft) long and 4.2 metres (14 ft) wide. Floating on eight wave-damping pontoons with a capacity of more than 4,000 passengers per hour it can carry a passenger load of more than 300 metric tons (300 long tons; 330 short tons). SeaWalk consists of three bridges, two link pontoons and the hinged landing section. The bridges are 72 metres (236 ft) long. The walkway is approximately 200 centimetres (79 in) above sea level and the railings are 110 centimetres (43 in) high.[9]
