Orchlon International School
Orchlon International School and Kindergarten Complex (OIS) is a non-profit, private, co-educational college preparatory day school in Khan Uul, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, offering an international secondary education curriculum for kindergarten to grade 12 students.[1] Founded in 2001, it serves close to 2000 students.[1] Around 70% of graduates enroll in universities and colleges in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, and China.
In 2007, Orchlon was named "The Best Secondary School of Mongolia" by the Mongolian Ministry of Education and Science for its education program, learning facilities, and teacher quality.
Orchlon is a bilingual school, with teaching carried out in both English and Mongolian, and is one of a number of schools in Mongolia which offer the Cambridge International A-level program. From its beginning, Orchlon has emphasized mathematics and sciences, and its students have won awards from International Mathematics and Science Olympiads.
In July 2008, Orchlon became the first school in Mongolia to offer the Cambridge Pathway curriculum in all levels, from ages 5 to 19,[1] providing Mongolian students with the same opportunities as students in 6000 schools in 150 countries. The program offers programs and qualifications designed for primary, middle, and high school students. Orchlon started with the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) qualification awarded to 15- to 16-year-old students. In the 2010–2011 school year, Orchlon started to offer the Cambridge A-level program as well, and the same year fulfilled the standards to be awarded membership of the Cambridge International Education Primary Programme. As a result, Orchlon School became the only school in Mongolia to offer national and international qualifications in all levels, from primary to upper school. Namely, it offers the Cambridge International Primary Programme from grades 1 to 5, the Lower Secondary Programme from grades 6 to 8, the IGCSE from grades 9 to 10, and the AS- and A-levels from grades 11 to 12.
Controversies
In September 2024, the school was rumored to have poisoned as many as up to 400 students. Reports state that, in the incident's early stage, the school board tried to cover it up by coercing parents. The faculty and the teachers on board were also affected by food poisoning. Reportedly, 30 people were hospitalized.[2]
