Mauro Alfieri is an Argentine photojournalist whose main field is sports photography. He has been described as a third-generation member of the Alfieri family, a family associated with sports photojournalism in Argentina. He works as a staff photographer for La Nación and has been credited with assignments on an alternating basis for CONMEBOL and FIFA.[1][3] In 2018, he received a special mention in the Photography category at the Premios ADEPA al Periodismo.[2]

Career

A grandson of Ricardo Alfieri and son of Ricardo Osvaldo Alfieri, he continued the family tradition in sports photography.[1][4] Media profiles have identified him as a sports photographer for La Nación and reported that he covered FIFA World Cups in Japan, Germany and South Africa, as well as the 2001 Copa América in Colombia.[3]

In connection with exhibitions and activities related to the family archive, he has been described as working for La Nación while alternating coverage for CONMEBOL and FIFA.[1]

Sports photography

Alfieri's credited work in La Nación includes coverage of the Argentina national football team during CONMEBOL qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.[5]

His photographs have also been credited in La Nación galleries during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, including image selections published after matches involving Argentina.[6]

Portrait and cultural photography

In addition to sports coverage, Alfieri has been credited for photographs used in profile and culture pieces published by La Nación.[7]

Institutional photography

Articles published by the Buenos Aires City Government have used photographs credited to Alfieri as illustrations.[8][9]

Exhibitions

In March 2025, the exhibition "ADN Alfieri: tres generaciones de fotógrafos" opened in Mendoza at the Espacio de Fotografía Máximo Arias. It was presented as a traveling selection from the family archive, with free admission and related activities, including a public talk featuring Mauro and Ricardo Alfieri.[4][10]

Los Andes covered the exhibition and identified Alfieri as part of the family's third generation, reporting on the opening and program at the Espacio de Fotografía Máximo Arias.[11]
