Josh Hoover (born June 25, 2003) is an American college football quarterback for the Indiana Hoosiers. He previously played for the TCU Horned Frogs.
Early life
Hoover was born in Rockwall, Texas where he attended high school at Rockwall-Heath. Hoover finished his high school career throwing for 9,953 yards and 108 touchdowns in three seasons.[1] Hoover was named the 2021 winner of the Landry Award, given annually to the top high school football player in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.[1] Hoover was initially committed to play college football for the Indiana Hoosiers.[2] However, he flipped his commitment to play for the TCU Horned Frogs.[1]
College career

2022
As a freshman in 2022, Hoover appeared in one game, completing his only pass attempt for two yards, and took a redshirt.[3][4]
2023
In Week 6 of the 2023 season, Hoover relieved starting quarterback Chandler Morris, after he went down with an injury. Hoover completed 11 of his 19 pass attempts for 119 yards and one touchdown, with an interception in a loss to the Iowa State Cyclones.[5] In the following week, Hoover made his first career start when he completed 37 out of 58 passing attempts for 439 yards and four touchdowns in a 44–11 rout of the BYU Cougars.[6]
2024
Hoover broke out as a top-level quarterback in 2024, finishing 7th in college football with an astounding 3,949 passing yards. This total broke TCU's single season passing yards record, which had been held by Trevone Boykin. Against the Kansas Jayhawks, Hoover went 28 of 37 for 356 yards and three touchdowns, with two interceptions. Against the Texas Tech Red Raiders, he finished 21 of 32 passing for 344 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Frogs to a comeback victory.[7]
2025
In the season opener against the North Carolina Tar Heels, in what was Bill Belichick's debut as the head coach of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Hoover led the Horned Frogs to a 48–14 victory.[8]
On December 18, 2025, Hoover announced that he would enter the NCAA transfer portal and miss the 2025 Alamo Bowl.[9]
Indiana
On January 4, 2026, Hoover transferred to Indiana.[10]

Personal life
Hoover is a Christian. He has said, "My faith keeps me grounded and gives me comfort that no matter how I perform on Saturdays, God still loves and cares about me."[11]
