Early life

Alessandra Joan Thiele was born in Desenzano del Garda, Brescia, to an Italian mother from Naples and Swiss father of Colombian descent.[4][5] She has one brother.[6]

She spent her early childhood in Cartagena, Colombia, before moving back to Desenzano del Garda with her mother after her parents separated.[7] At the age of 18, she moved to London. She later moved back to Italy and settled in Milan.[3][8]

Career

Thiele began pursuing music as a busker at the age of 16.[7] In 2015, she released a cover of Drake's "Hotline Bling".[9][10] The following year, she released her first single, "Save Me", and first extended play, Joan Thiele.[3][11] Two more radio hit singles, "Taxi Driver"[12] and "Armenia", followed in order.[13][14] In 2018, she performed at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas.[15] Later that year, she released her first studio album, Tango,[16][17] preceded by the singles "Fire" and "Polite".[18] In 2019 he collaborated with Myss Keta, together with Elodie and Priestess, on the new version of the song "Le ragazze di Porta Venezia".[19]

In March 2020 he collaborated with Nitro in the song "No Privacy / No Caption Needed" from the album GarbAge, contributing to sing the chorus of the second part "No caption needed", and released Operazione oro, her second extended play and first in Italian,[4][20] preceded by the singles "Le vacanze",[21] "Puta"[22] and "Bambina".[23][24] In February 2021, she was featured on Mace's album OBE, appearing on the song "Senza fiato" alongside Venerus.[25] On the 12th of the same month, she released the single "Atto I - Memoria del futuro", consisting of two songs: "Cinema" and "Futuro wow",[26] produced by Mace, Venerus and Ceri.[27] On 30 April 2021, she released the single "Atto II - Disordinato spazio", featuring "Tuta blu" and "Scilla".[28] On 22 October 2021, she released the single Atto III - L'errore, the third and final part of this project, containing "Errori" and "Sotto la pelle".[29]

On 20 May 2022 she released the collection Atti, which includes the three EPs released up to that point.[30][31] In September she was featured on the song "Proiettili (ti mangio il cuore)" by Elodie, included on the soundtrack of the film Burning Hearts.[32] In 2023 the film was awarded with the David di Donatello for Best Original Song[33][34] and nominated for the Nastro d'argento for best original song.[35] On 25 May of the same year, the single "Verdad" by Golden Years was released, on which he collaborated with Ele A.[36]

In April 2024, she collaborated again with producer Mace on the song "Viaggio contro la paura" (from the album Māyā), in which she collaborated with rapper Gemitaiz.[37] On 6 December of the same year, she released the single "Veleno".[38]

In February 2025, she competed for the first time at the 75th Sanremo Music Festival with the song "Eco",[39][40] which finished in twentieth place.[41][42] On 14 February, during the fourth evening dedicated to covers, she duetted with Frah Quintale, singing Gino Paoli's song "Che cosa c'è", which finished in twenty-third place.[3][43]

On 21 February 2025, she released her second studio album Joanita,[44] her first project performed entirely in Italian, preceded by the singles "Veleno" and "Eco".[45][46] The Joanita tour 2025, her eight-date summer tour from Milan to Locorotondo (Bari), took place from 24 May to 14 August.[47] On June 27, the single "Allucinazione" was released, included on the digital reissue of the album Joanita.[48][49]

On 4 July 2025, Shablo's album Manifesto was released, on which Joan collaborated on the track "Che storia sei?" with Joshua and Nayt.[50] On 22 August Fabri Fibra's single Milano baby (from the album Mentre Los Angeles brucia), on which she collaborated, was released.[51] On 10 October Frah Quintale's album Amor proprio was released, on which Joan collaborated on the track "Occhi diamanti".[52]
