Hong Kong Institute of Languages (HKIL) is a private language school located in Hong Kong. It was founded in 1985 by French couple Dominique and Christian Chasset.
History
The Institute was originally founded as a French language school in Hong Kong, offering French language instruction to business executives. By the 1990s the founding team expanded the institute by providing six additional language offerings,[1] as well as providing classes for children ages two and up.[2]
Today, HKIL offers instruction in English, French, German, Japanese, Spanish, Cantonese, and Mandarin.[3]

The Hong Kong Institute of Languages (HKIL) offers a wide range of language courses for different age groups, including adults, teenagers, and children. The bureau’s public-school listing verifies key details, including the institute’s prime location at Wellington Plaza in the bustling Central district, and lists Dominique and Christian Chasset as its directors. This official listing supports HKIL’s legitimacy and compliance as a recognized educational provider operating within Hong Kong’s regulated framework.[5]
In addition to their work at HKIL, the institute’s founders, Dominique and Christian Chasset, have contributed to Hong Kong’s educational projects. They established Les Petits Lascars, a network of French international preschools and kindergartens that emphasize bilingual early childhood education. This project highlights their ongoing commitment to fostering language learning and cultural exchange for younger generations in the city.[6]
Awards
One of the founders of HKIL, Christian Chasset, was awarded the "Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Palmes Academiques" (Knight in the Order of the Academic Palms),on May 28, 2007, in recognition of contributions to French culture and education,[3] on.
The co-founder of HKIL, Dominique Chasset, was awarded the Ordre National du Mérite ("Knight of the National Order of Merit").[3]
