Commitment is a 2017 Gujarati drama film starring Manas Shah, making his debut in Gujarati cinema, alongside Maulika Patel in the lead roles.[1][2] The film is directed by Atul Patel and written and produced by Manoj Patel.[3] It was released on 16 June 2017.

Plot

The film centers on Raj Mehta (Manas Shah), a young medical representative whose ethical convictions bring him into conflict with corrupt practices in the pharmaceutical industry.[2] As he attempts to confront the greed and nexus between doctors and companies, the narrative unfolds through personal and professional challenges, blending social commentary with elements of drama and romance.[4] The story is inspired by real-life incidents and depicts the impact of inflated medical costs and unethical healthcare practices on ordinary people.[1]

Production

Development

According to a report published in Phulchhab, director Manoj Patel, who previously worked as a medical representative, developed the film based on his experiences in the pharmaceutical sector and conducted research on the subject for several years before finalizing the screenplay. [5] The film examines the relationship between doctors and pharmaceutical companies and was shot in Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar.[6]

Festival Screening

The film was screened at the Kalpan International Film Festival in December 2016 as part of the festival’s closing ceremony.[7]

Soundtrack

Nishit Mehta and Krupesh Thacker composed the songs of the film and the lyrics are penned by Chirag Tripathi, Ankit Trivedi, Milind Gadhavi & Krupesh Thacker. The music is launched by Krup Music.[8][9]

Reception

Commitment received mixed reviews from critics; The Times of India gave 2.5/5 stars while the user review on site is 2.9/5 based on 69 user ratings. The movie is appreciated for its brave attempt to show the different subject in Gujarati cinema.[4]
