Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is an upcoming Metroidvania game scheduled to be released in 2026. The game is to be developed by Evil Empire in partnership with and published by Konami Digital Entertainment. It is the 26th installment in the Castlevania series. The game's protagonist is a descendant of Trevor Belmont. The game is set in France in the year 1499, 23 years after the events of Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (1989).
Gameplay
Belmont's Curse is a side-scrolling platformer. The protagonist, armed with the Belmont family's holy whip " Vampire Killer", explores and adventures through the city of Paris while fighting monsters. Similar to Super Castlevania IV, the game's whip attack allows for free movement and enables additional movement techniques, such as using it to swing from points like a rope.[3][4]
The game's world is open and non-linear, following the Metroidvania format established in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, including an auto-filling map, rooms to save the game, and dedicated fast travel points.[5]
Plot
The game is set in Medieval Paris in the year 1499, ravaged by demonic creatures. The local bishop sends a letter to Trevor Belmont begging him to save his people.[6] Trevor and a young member of the Belmont clan set out to rid the city of its invaders and determine how they crossed over.[7]
Development
The game is being developed in partnership with Konami by two Bordeaux-based indie development studios, Evil Empire, developer of The Rogue Prince of Persia, and under an advisory role,[1] Motion Twin, developer of Dead Cells.[8]
In February 2026, the game was announced to the public during a PlayStation State of Play livestream.[9] The game's announcement and release coincides with the 40th anniversary of the original Castlevania, released in 1986, with Konami adding that Belmont's Curse will be the "the beginning of numerous new products around Castlevania".[10]
